The Financial Conduct Authority will speak to smaller advice firms at an event especially for the "under-represented" companies.

The Consumer Duty Alliance is running the event titled Consumer Duty and the Evolution of Financial Planning’.

The body said smaller advice firms make up more than 80 per cent of the regulated finance sector but can often feel under-represented, especially with policymakers and regulatory consultations.

Alliance CEO, Keith Richards, said: “Smaller advice firms are an important part of the personal finance sector, offering consumers diversity, choice and often play a key role within local communities.

“Facilitating wider sector engagement with the FCA underpins their future strategy and we are delighted that FCA will be delivering a keynote speech, separate breakout sessions and a demonstration of the Retirement Income Advice Assessment Tool."

He added other professional support services will also be on hand to offer advisers guidance and support.

The event is expected to focus on the growing importance of professional advice in an ever-changing landscape and what it means for smaller firms, including proportionality of regulation.

The event will be hosted by financial planner, Ruth Sturkey, and combines keynote presentations from the FCA head of supervision, Nick Hulme, sessions from subject matter experts, practitioners, and interactive panel discussions.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from the regulator and take part in a two-way feedback session.

The event, which will be the Alliance's first in person, will take place on October 11 at the National Motorcycle Museum, near Birmingham.
