No pensions 'dash for cash' despite pressure on household finances

Concerns remain

In its latest data, HMRC said since auto-enrolment was introduced in 2012, participation differences across the population have narrowed. 

However, there are still low participation levels for some groups, and the gender pension gap remains a concern.

Glancy from Scottish Widows said challenges remained for the self-employed or those in more casual employment. 

"Over the last 12 years, millions of workers have been swept into saving for the future through auto-enrolment," said Glancy. 

"But the work is not yet done. Some eligible groups still have relatively low pension participation levels - including 57 per cent for employees of micro employers in the private sector and 73 per cent for Pakistani and Bangladeshi employees."
