Will naming firms speed up FCA investigations?

In reference to the chancellor's comments, an FCA spokesperson said: "We embrace our secondary objective to facilitate international competitiveness and growth alongside the primary objectives given to us by Parliament to protect consumers, market integrity and effective competition.

"As we have said throughout the process, this is a consultation. We will listen carefully to the extensive feedback we have received, including from government as we reflect on our next steps."

Mark Steward declined to comment.

As the consultation closed on April 30, many are waiting with some anticipation on where the FCA takes the proposals in CP24/2 next, but some hold out hope that the co-heads of enforcement are at least listening.

Stephen says: "It seems as though they've been trying to engage with industry particularly around this new enforcement proposal. But I think more engagement is going to be needed because there's huge interest in this proposal.

"It's rare that a proposal attracts as much as this has, and the industry reaction has been pretty uniform across the board."
