Lee Robertson: ‘Mental health struggles are more widespread in sector than you think'

More needs to be done

While a lot has been done by firms in the sector to introduce better wellbeing programmes for their employees, Robertson felt more could be done.

He said: “Firms have gotten better by introducing mental health first aiders and having mental health support integrated into a company’s benefit plan but I think we can always do more.”

Robertson suggested employers could build more wellbeing elements into day-to-day practices within teams.

He added: “You have team meetings where it’s all about what we’re doing for clients and what the next compliance issue is we need to be dealing with.

“It would be great if we could build wellbeing elements into those meetings. To get colleagues to seriously talk to each other about how they are doing. That would be my big hope for this industry.”
