'Firms without younger advisers risk losing business'

“The apprenticeship gave me the best of both worlds, allowing me to study and have on the job training as well and, looking back, I wouldn’t have entered the industry in any other way.”

Recognition

Lane’s effort in the apprenticeship role was recognised last year by the CII as she was awarded Apprentice of the Year 2023.

“My employer put me forward with a personal statement and I put some words together and we sent off my application to the CII," she explained.

“A few months later, after the institute had assessed all their candidates, they phoned me one day and told me I had been selected as the winner and that was really amazing.”

She added that the awards evening allowed her to speak with lots of other young winners and members of financial services.

“It was a really nice event and really nice to talk to other young people coming into the industry from all across the country.

“It was a pretty big highlight of my career and I’m sure, when I look back on it in the future, it will be quite special to me.”
